Record Surge in Sports Industry M&A and Private Equity Investments in 2024, Driven by Fan Engagement and Technology
In 2024, the sports industry saw a record year for mergers and acquisitions (M&A), with a 44% increase in deals compared to 2023, totaling 410 transactions.
This surge was mainly driven by a rise in private equity investments, growing fan engagement, and the emergence of sports technology.
Private equity deals nearly doubled from 96 in 2023 to 190 in 2024, with notable investments in NFL teams like the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, as well as in soccer clubs such as Inter Milan and Everton.
Investors are increasingly attracted to sports teams and leagues due to their stable revenue generation from commercial and media rights.
The report also predicts more strong M&A activity to occur in 2025. Read more about this report here.
